Lobster Season opens

When
Saturday, October 1, 2005
12:01am

More Info
If you hunt, please do so responsibly! It is up to you to help ensure the future of the lobster population. The 2005 Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations can be found on the California Department of Fish & Game website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/sportfishing_regs2005.html.

Here are a few tips:

1. Leave the small ones alone
2. Leave the really big ones alone- as hard as it may be to resist, the really big lobsters proliferate more readily and will help ensure there are more for next year.
3. If you should catch an egg-carrying female, release it so it can make more lobsters for next year.
4. Don't grab lobsters by the antennae- they break easily and this approach causes unnecessary harm to the lobster and usually results in a failed attempt to catch the lobster.
5. Be sure you are aware of and follow local regulations- have a valid and appropriate fishing license, have a lobster gauge and know how to use it.
