Kellogg Park Map Celebration When Location Directions Description In Fall 2006, groundbreaking is scheduled for the installation of a 31 x 63 foot map of La Jolla Shores and the La Jolla State Marine Conservation area in Kellogg Park, south of the Scripps Campus. Local marine life and natural and historical landmarks will be featured on "The Map" in a smooth, Lithocrete surface of crushed glass, aggregate, and sea shells. "The Map" is an educational collaboration supported by County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price and includes Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Birch Aquarium, Surfrider Foundation, Franko's Maps, Kumeyaay-Diegueno Land Conservancy, La Jolla Shores Association, PADI Foundation, San Diego Coastkeeper, Wyland, scuba divers, surfers, community members, and many others. It will create a keen awareness of the ecological, geological, cultural, and environmental features of the ocean in an effort to foster stewardship to protect regions that have been designated Areas of Special Biological Significance. "The Map's" location is adjacent to the boardwalk along La Jolla Shores beach and the children's playground. For more information and a layout on the map project, visit http://www.lajollashoresmap.com/. For additional information and an opportunity to support "The Map" project, please join "Friends of the Map" for a special reception at Birch Aquarium at Scripps on Monday, September 18, from 6-8 p.m. Meet the artists, consultants and committee members. Donors contributing $250 or more will be recognized on a permanent plaque adjacent to "The Map" in Kellogg Park. Wine, beer and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Requirements |
