New Resource On Invasive Plant- Caulerpa Taxifolia Non-native species in the oceans present a significant risk to the biodiversity of local underwater ecosystems. Two species of Caulerpa (a plant commonly used in aquariums) has caused significant damage to reef systems in other parts of the world, and now threatens coastal California. Several efforts to erradicate Caulerpa from local waters have met with success, but support for ongoing efforts to watch for new infestations is needed. Recreational divers are in a unique position to help watch for outcroppings of Caulerpa, and the Southern California Caulerpa Action Team has created a very useful website with information about Caulerpa and how divers can help by keeping an eye out for this invasive seaweed.
